Duck Lake is located in Muskegon County, southwest of the city of Whitehall. Duck Lake State Park stretches from the northern shore of Duck Lake to Lake Michigan and offers a 728-acre day use park. The land was purchased by the Nature Conservancy from two Boy Scout organizations and acquired by the state in 1974 and the park was officially dedicated in the spring of 1988.

Duck Lake State Park features a towering sand dune and is ideal for water sports. Activities include swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, cross-country skiing and ice fishing. A picnic pavilion offers the perfect spot for group gatherings, and a wooded picnic area features tables, grills, a sandy beach and a beach house. A paved hiking trail provides a path through the woods along the banks of Duck Lake. Further west along the park drive is a boardwalk that leads around the end of Duck Lake over to Lake Michigan. Duck Lake supports a healthy population of rock bass, crappie and pan fish, and fly fishing for bluegill is excellent in early summer. A small channel empties Duck Lake into Lake Michigan, but a dam under the Whitehall Scenic Drive Bridge blocks access into Lake Michigan. The state park is closed to vehicles during the winter months, but hiking, ice fishing, and cross-country skiing is permitted. Nearby Whitehall is known for its restaurants, shopping, marina, free weekly concerts in summer and its historic lighthouse museum.
